Accompanying the 12 Year Animal Cycle was a further 10 Year Elemental Cycle with 5 Elements: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood repeating sequentially in first Big/Yang and then Small/Yin Mode Rabbit Year 2011, fourth in the current 12 Year Cycle (beginning with Rat Year 2008) has Small (Yin) Metal as underlying Year Element, This succeeds Tiger Year (2010) and Big/Yang Metal with Dragon Year (2012) and Big/Yang Water next. Manifesting Animal Year Energies are modulated by Year Element’ energies, producing 10 x 12=120 Yearly variations. Three 120 Year Spans comprise two 180 Year Cycles–Yang and Yin.

Many millions of years ago a huge meteor struck the earth fracturing its crust into today’s tectonic plates ending ‘dinosaur day’, causing the continental drift and the earth’s axial tilt Volcanic activity also began as magmatic materials spilled onto the Earth’s surface, including metal veins mined today. Crystals too, were another consequence as conditions changed drastically in ways leading ultimately to Man’s Evolution. Quartz: white/clear varieties in particular, individual pieces and clusters. Quartz has many attributes similar to metal. In 5 Element terms Earth supports/ produces Metal and Earth colour backgrounds (yellow, brown, beige) will enhance the effect of any display (including their use for personal adornment). Mirrors are Metal in Feng Shui terms and the placement of one or more reflecting displays can double their impact and direct their beneficial energies into the centre of a room.

2010, Turbulent Tiger Year and Big Metal Year Element saw Financial Emergencies and international and Central Bank interventions affecting many States.
