Feng Shui 101 – Jack Up Your Chi

Want to put a little more energy into your home?  Want to give your Chi a kick in the butt?  Well welcome to the ancient Chinese science of Feng Shui which is designed to ramp up the energy vibrations both inside and outside your house.  Follow this little primer and you’ll find your life entering a new cycle of happiness and opportunity.  Honest.  Just ask any ancient China guy.

So where do we begin.   Let’s start with a tour of the house with an eye towards really noticing how each space makes you feel.  Walk into every room and down the hall and up the stairs and really notice what you see and how you feel as you walk through the different spaces.  If there are certain areas that make you feel better than others try to figure out why.  Is it the colors?  The lighting?  Furnishings?  Or is it just good memories associated with the space?

One area that you are going to want to take particular care of is the entrance to your home.  This is where the Chi enters your house so it has to be as welcoming as you can make it.  You’re going to pick up pretty quickly that Feng Shui likes clean places.  Be sure your entry is clean and clutter free.  Make sure the door can swing all of the way open without banging into anything.  Make sure it’s well lit so the Chi can find the way.  If you like to decorate the outside of your door, don’t use anything dried.  Use fresh wreaths or fabric like silk.

While you’re outside decorating the door, check out your landscaping.  If you have trees or shrubs that are partially blocking any windows, trim them back.  Feng Shui wants to be able to see out.  If you have decorations in the yard like a bird bath, make sure they are clean.

Next step is to get rid of the past.  Go through your medicine cabinet and toss all the outdated pills, ointments and such.  The same goes for your pantry.  Check the sell by dates and toss everything that is expired.  Feng Shui likes fresh stuff.

Time to get down on your knees and check under the bed.  The boogie man may not live there but odds are there’s a whole herd of dust bunnies that do.  Feng Shui wants this space under your bed clean to allow the Chi to pass over and under your bed easily.  There is one exception.  If you are pregnant don’t clean under the bed until after the baby is born.

Now you have cleaned the entryway, chopped back the shrubs, tossed out old junk and probably had an allergy attack removing dust from under your bed.  You are probably thinking Feng Shui is a code name for Mother-In-Law.

There are a lot of people who swear by the concept of making your home more receptive to positive energy, and if you think about it, simply having a cleaner more organized house does make you feel better.  There’s much more to this system than we covered here but at least you can get started and welcome the Chi to your home.
