Feng Shui Door Facing North

How do I activate my North corner of the house?
The north sector of my home houses my front door, a toilet on the left (while facing the front door looking out) and the stairs on the right. I was told not to use Wood or Crystal in the North as it is detrimental in Feng Shui terms. But then, how can I rectify the sha qi of the toilet and the stairs?
Plants add life to any room or area.
