Decorate Your Office Using Feng Shui

Instead of arranging things for efficiency and convenience, many are turning to Feng Shui, a Japanese form of decorating that many believe to bring them positive chi: good health, wealth, love and luck.

By making simple changes to where you position your office furniture, Feng Shui is believed to bring prosperity and serenity.

Small changes that can be made, and probably the most obvious, include ridding your desk of all clutter (this also includes your computer desktop), loose paper, unused stationery and office supplies ? to only leave what is needed; creating new space for upcoming work and opportunities.

Tangled wires and cables are also considered to represent chaos within the room, so make sure these are secured tidily behind your office furniture, or hidden from view. You should also leave at least 7-9 inches of space between each piece of office furniture to allow for the smooth flow of positive chi.

Your office chair, it is believed, should never face away from the door or be backed against a window, as this symbolically leaves you open to attack. However, if you directly face a door you may be overpowered by the incoming Chi. The office chair in itself is possibly the piece of office furniture that receives the most attention. Many people spend lengthy hours seated in their chair at work, so it needs to a comfortable place to be and not cause aches and pains. That comfort requirement is often at odds with style decisions. Frequently the most stylish designs are not the easiest to sit in for any length of time, so often, where the heart rules the head, inappropriate office chairs are selected.

The best place to situate your office chair should be as far away from the room opening as possible, ideally in the farthest corner and with your back facing the wall. This is synonymous with commandment and power. Also, if you wish to generate wealth and prosperity, position your computer in a South/East direction and fill your office with plants such as the bamboo and money plant.

Sitting a plant at the side of your computer is considered to absorb and eradicate negative chi. Clean your computer frequently to produce positive ions and display a happy photo as your background. Also ensure that your office chair and office desk are ergonomical, practical and comfortable.

Your work space should be partitioned from your home life, if not by walls, then by screens and book cases. Finally, make sure your office is well-lit, as lighting is considered to have an effect on energy. Regardless of whether you agree with the belief of Feng Shui, to clear your work space of clutter and mess will no doubt affect your work environment and, therefore, clarity of mind. However, if you do follow the principals of the Oriental practice, traditionalists claim that you may discover an increase in prosperity, boost your health, reduce insomnia and stress, increase concentration and attract new business.
