What does a rat figurine signify in feng shui??

I was gifted a glass statue of a rat (medium sized) by a friend of mine. Its a multi-coloured rat with its tail pointing upwards. According to her its from a feng shui store..
Please tell me wat does it signify according to feng-shui and wher shud i place it in my home. According to chinese astrology my sun sign is Snake. Please share ur views.

From a Feng Shui perspective, the Rat symbol just signifies the year’s Earthly Branch. This means that 2008 is the year of the Rat, nothing more and nothing less. The use of animal signs to name the year was used by farmers and less educated people of ancient China to help them remember the year.

In the Chinese tradition, people like to display figurines or statues of the animal that the year corresponds to. They believe that displaying the animal of the year will help them tap into the good energy of the year. So this year, being the year of the Rat, many people will display the rat figure in their homes and business.

In terms of placement, majority of the people will display the figurine in their living room or family room at home. For a business, they will usually display it by their front door or register area. If you want to be very specific, you can also place the Rat figure in the North sector of your home of business. This is because the Rat rules the North.

In terms of Feng Shui, the Rat is not having a good year this year. So you actually want to display the Ox, the secret friend of the Rat, rather than the Rat itself. Rat is consider to clash with the year and will face some challenges and changes ahead. However, the Ox being the Rat’s secret friend will help bring in the good energy of year.
